Severe Thunderstorm

Affected areas Beamsville, Vineland, St. Catharines, Welland, Thorold, Port Colborne, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie

Environment Canada tracked a severe thunderstorm capable of damaging wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Local power outages were likely, along with damage to roofs, fences, soft shelters, and trees.

Affected areas Fort Erie, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, Niagara Region (general)

  • 1,114+ (Canadian Niagara Power) Customers without power

Winds up to 110 km/h knocked out power to more than a thousand homes, hardest in Fort Erie and Port Colborne. Outages began around 7 a.m. as trees fell on lines, and most power was restored by the next evening.

Environment Canada tracked a severe thunderstorm that was briefly capable of producing a tornado, with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rain across southern Niagara. The tornado warning was later ended as the threat passed.
